Etomidate is one of the commonly used drugs for intubations in ICU. I have a great personal experience with this agent. It is also well known that it can cause hypotension due to it's effect on cortisol production. Now, there is more evidence coming out (The Journal of Trauma, July 2009) that it could be associated with higher rates of late onset ARDS and MODS in a subgroup of trauma patients.
So, if not Etomidate, what drug should we use???
