Ventral/Umbilical Hernia
This is an example of a large Ventral/Umbilical Hernia. Ventral hernia is a hernia due to a defect in the abdominal wall. In this case the patient presented for an unrelated reason and was found to have a large bulge in the periumbilical area on physical exam.
CT abdomen “confirmed” the presence of the Umbilical Hernia with a significant portion of the transverse colon in the hernia sac. No incarceration was noted.
Despite the large size of this hernia the patient remained asymptomatic. No surgical treatment was planned.
