Sugar feeds cancer - separating myth from reality.

Recently I admitted an elderly gentleman who had been diagnosed with locally advanced pancreatic cancer 1.5 years ago. He sought the care of an integrative cancer institute in a different state. As part of that care plan, he elimated lactose and sugar from his diet after having been told that "these will feed his cancer". This sparked a question in my mind regaring this issue. I did an online search and did find many naturopathic and holistic literture to support this claim. As far as traditional medicine source, I did find one study from Switzerland that followed individuals with a high sugar diet for 7 years. At 7 years these patients had highter incidences of pancreatic cancer than the general population. I also found a source that linked high sugar intake with ovarian cancer. But the overwhelming literature from traditional medicine does not support a relationship between dietary sugar intake and cancer.

I agree - there is no evidence that surgar facilitates cancer growth.
