splenic laceration

Splenic Artery Angiography and Coiling

spleen angiography and coiling

The patient sustained a grade three splenic laceration with active bleeding. Splenic artery angiography revealed active contrast extravasation (black arrow on the image above) indicating bleeding. Selective coiling of the bleeding vessels (white arrow above) was performed to stop the bleeding. The patient subsequently did well and was discharged home.

Grade 3 Splenic Laceration with Bleeding

grade 3 spleen laceration

The image above demonstrates a grade 3 splenic laceration with contrast extravasation (arrow on the image above), indicating active bleeding. This was the result of blunt trauma due to a motor vehicle accident. Considering there was active bleeding, the patient was taken to the radiology suite for angiography and embolization.
